On Thursday, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and other local authorities announced the kick-off of a free tax preparation campaign for local residents in and around the Capital Region.  The service is FREE for any person or family earning under $52,000 a year and provided by the Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (CA$H) Coalition.

CA$H hopes to gain more attention to the Earned Income Tax Credit or the EITC.  This particular credit was designed to help low and moderate income earning households, but many people either don't know about it or don't think it applies to them.  Some of us try to save money by doing our own taxes and never know there could have been a higher refund.  Surprisingly so, about 20% of taxpayers don't apply for this refundable federal and state income tax credit and lose out!

There are multiple, convenient locationsproviding this free assistance in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Schoharie Counties.  A list of those locations and what to bring with you for free tax preparation can be found here.
