Yesterday the CDC issued new guidelines for fully vaccinated people. The new guidelines say that if you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, many of the mask restrictions have been lifted. Governor Cuomo is saying not so fast, many mask mandates are still in effect in New York for a little while longer.

The CDC gave unvaccinated people an incentive to take the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the new guidelines that were issued yesterday, many people who have been fully vaccinated can take their masks off indoors and outdoors in many circumstances. Governor Cuomo has not lifted the mandates in New York yet, he is asking New Yorkers to wait until the health department can fully review the guidelines.

According to ABC 7, In a statement today Governor Cuomo said, “In New York, we have always relied on the facts and the science to guide us throughout the worst of this pandemic and in our successful reopening. We have received the newly revised guidance from the CDC regarding mask-wearing and social distancing for those with vaccinations and are reviewing them in consultation with State Health Commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker and our partners and health experts in surrounding states.”

After speaking to many of my family and friends, I've received mixed reviews on whether people are ready to get rid of their masks. To me, it seems reasonable to be able to interact with other vaccinated people if the vaccines really work, but there is no way to tell who is really vaccinated.

Most people who will continue wearing masks say that they are taking a wait-and-see attitude. They remember that at the beginning of the pandemic the CDC said that masks weren’t necessary, and then they were.

The people who are ready to take their masks off were never really into wearing them anyway, and they've always questioned whether they actually work. What do you think, are you ready to get rid of your mask?
