Thanksgiving is a holiday for thanks.  It's also become known as a holiday for shopping and sales, with Black Friday creeping into stores opening on the holiday in recent years.

However, a lot of stores are going to be closed for business on Thanksgiving.  So if you're planning on heading out and about, instead of being in a food coma, make sure you plan around the ones that are closed.

I found a list of major retailers that were going to be closed for the holiday at USA Today.  Meaning don't go there (stay home and give thanks).  Among those that have their doors shut and employees at home enjoying turkey:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Aldi
  • Barnes & Noble
  • BJ's
  • Costco
  • Boscov's
  • Burlington Coat Factory
  • Guitar Center
  •  H&M
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • HomeGoods
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • Petco
  • PetSmart
  • Staples
  • TJ Maxx
  • Trader Joe's
